An old man and a boy were going to town to get some needed supplies. With them they brought a small donkey to carry back their boxes and parcels but for now, the boy rode on the donkey while the old man walked.
As they went along though, they passed an older couple who remarked what a shame it was that the "spoiled" lad was making the poor old man walk while he rode in such comfort. Thinking maybe the critics were right, or at the very least not wanting to upset anyone else, the boy and the man happily switched positions.
So they decided that perhaps it might be best if they both just walked... ....that is until they passed some people laughing out right and commenting how stupid they were to both be walking when right there beside them they had a perfectly decent donkey to ride on!
This went well for some time, until, as fate would have it, just outside the town once more they came upon some people who disapproved... and this time even downright shamed them by saying how awful it was to put such a load on such a "poor, little donkey!"
Sighing, the boy and man stopped somewhat puzzled, thinking how to proceed. But as they stood in frustration looking at the bridge over the swift river ahead of them... suddenly, they arrived at the ONLY thing they hadn't tried and so therefore, which HAD TO BE be the answer that would please EVERYONE! -Strange as it was, this time they would carry THE DONKEY!
"In life, if you try to please everybody, one thing's for sure... -you might as well kiss your ass goodbye!!!" ;)
